Walter C. Barnett represents a long lineage of artists and creatives. From generation to generation, art has always played a major role in his life. Walter C. Barnett graduated from Methodist University in 2017 where he received his Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design. After graduating, Walter made the decision to move to New York to pursue his dream of having his work seen around the globe. Walter cultivated numerous freelance work while in New York. Most notably, Walter embraced the opportunity to work along side his cousin, Tony Award Nominee Daniel J. Watts, for the advertising and branding of his solo show Daniel J .Watts’ The Jam: Only Child.
Walter’s persistence, drive, and competitiveness eventually led him into landing his first full-time Graphic Designer role for the Educational Alliance's 14th Street Y. While living in New York, Walter gained more confidence in his practice while also continuing to network for new connections. In 2019 Walter accepted a second job to work as a Social Designer at SpotCo, an entertainment, advertising, marketing and branding agency who plays a leading role in developing Broadway's most iconic brands. During his time at SpotCo, Walter worked on shows such as Beetlejuice, King Kong, David Byrne’s American Utopia, Bat out of Hell, and Tony Award Winners Tootsie, The Ferryman, Cats and more.
Among many of his successful projects, Walter designed the logo and branding for J.Cole’s first signature shoe and clothing line, DREAMER in 2019. This opportunity led to multiple projects with J.Cole, including the design of a basketball court, The Off-Season album branding, DREAMER x Mitchell and Ness Jersey Collaboration, and Tour merchandise to name a few.
In 2021, Walter accepted the position to work as Lead Production Designer for ESPN. At EPSN Walter worked with multiple shows such as, First Take, SportsCenter, Get Up, NBA Today, and NFL Live. Walter also designed the branding and identity for ESPN’s Jackie Robinson’s 75th Anniversary celebration titled, Jackie75 and JackieToMe. In July of 2022 Walter accepted a full-time position as Senior Creative for DREAMER by J.Cole. Today, Walter now leads as Art Director.
